Thaipusam is one of the most fascinating Hindu festivals, during which devotees may enter a trance-like state, and some have their bodies pierced with metal spikes. A colourful procession then takes place, with participants carrying heavy, richly decorated kavadis from a temple on Serangoon Road, walking 4 km to another Hindu temple. Along the way, our guide Charlotte will explain the legends and rituals of Thaipusam, giving you the chance to observe the procession and experience the atmosphere, music, chanting, and clapping of the participants. At the temple, see how devotees prepare for this momentous walk. The bus will then take us to the end of the procession, where you can witness devotees removing the spikes with nary a drop of blood.

Please note:

  1. Dress modestly and wear comfortable footwear that is easy to slip on and off, as shoes must be removed at temple entrances.

  2. There is no refreshment stop, so please bring a bottle of water.

  3. The tour ends at the second temple in River Valley; the bus will not return to Newton.
